Subdirective is a 2.5D top down shooter where players must clear rooms of enemies, find keys and move onto the next level.

The game features fast paced combat and randomised modifiers which are applied at the start of each level.

It is set in a sci fi world where humans have been replaced by robots. A technical error results in robots around the world blindly following the last directive they were given by humans, which in your case is to protect your cat (referred to as "the asset") at all costs.

However, other robots blinded by their own directives have taken the asset and are guarding it with their lives.

The game features a pixel art style with a restrictive monochromatic colour scheme that also includes some colour highlights. The game also features 8 bit style sound effects.

The project was created for the second module of my University course. I was the sole creator of this project, responsible for the design of all system, art and audio assets.

The game was made with Unreal Engine's Blueprints system. Pixel art assets were created using Aseprite, sound assets were created with various online generators such as Sfxr and edited using Audacity. The levels were mapped out using Adobe Photoshop and blockout levels were tested and feedback recorded using Google Forms.
